How To Cut Soccer Socks For Trusox? 2 Methods

How To Cut Soccer Socks For Trusox? 2 Methods

Ask most soccer players which of their gears gives them the most problems and you will likely have many of them talking about their boots. The constant running around and quick twisting movement to evade their marker usually come at a huge cost.

Their feet often slide in their boots leaving them with blisters as their feet rub against the walls of the boots. Besides the blistering of the foot, this shuffling of feet in the boots can cause them to lose their balance.

In soccer, every player needs to focus on the ball and anything that steals their attention or makes them more self-conscious will affect how quickly they make judgments. That split-second lag in making a decision can lead to missing a vital goal.

Trusox was invented to solve the problem of feet shuffling in boots. A lot of soccer players have used it and gotten addicted to it but it has also gotten others in trouble.

The reason is that most soccer teams have brand sponsors that mandate them to wear gear from that brand alone. Wearing gears that display the logo of other brands is strictly forbidden—and may attract huge fines for defaulting players.

This created the problem of how soccer players can wear Trusox with their soccer socks. If there was no restriction, soccer players could simply wear their Trusox and come to the pitch—but that is not possible.

So, the only way around this stringent rule was to cut the soccer socks and wear the Trusox on the inside. Why and how do you cut Trusox to enjoy all its benefits? Read on to find out.

How to cut soccer socks for Trusox?

Soccer players have different reasons for cutting their socks. While some do it for comfort, others do it to improve their performance, fittingness, or comfort on the pitch.

Inasmuch as modern soccer socks have improved over the years, they have not done enough to prevent players’ feet from sliding in their boots. This is why many soccer players are turning to Trusox for the solution.

Trusox has grip pads lined on the bottom of the socks all the way to the heels. Once a soccer player wears this pair of socks, the grip pad helps to fill up any space as well as introduces friction between the player’s feet and the insoles of the boots.

The combination of these two factors helps to prevent the feet from sliding in the boots—and every negative effect that comes with it. To enjoy the full benefit of Trusox, the soccer player has to wear it in such a way that the socks have direct contact with the player’s feet and the boots.

If a soccer player wears another pair of socks inside or over the Trusox, the effect is greatly limited. What soccer players do is cut their soccer socks into a footless sleeve so that the foot of the Trusox will stay exposed while they also avoid getting into trouble with sponsors.

Cutting soccer socks so that you can wear them with Trusox is quite easy but you need to follow some rules to avoid destroying your soccer socks. Below are the different ways of cutting your soccer socks for Trusox.

Method 1: Cut the soccer socks into a footless sleeve

While there are other methods of cutting soccer socks for Trusox, professionals mostly make use of the footless sleeve method when cutting their socks. So, if you want to cut your soccer socks for Trusox like the pros, this is the method you should be trying to perfect.

The materials you need for this are a sharp pair of scissors, your soccer socks, athletic tape, and a pair of Trusox mid-calf options.

Step 1

Take your soccer socks in one hand (your weaker hand) and identify the area to be cut. This should be an area free of multiple stitches or ribs. Basically, you want to cut out the entire foot area from the ankle to leave a footless sleeve.

Step 2

Hold the pair of scissors in the other hand and start making your cut below the ribbed or stitched area. Try to maintain a clean cut. The cleaner the cut, the less likely the soccer socks will fray and the longer they will last.

Step 3

Wear the Trusox and pull it all the way to the mid-calf. For this technique to work, it is important that you get the shorter version of the Trusox that doesn’t go beyond the mid-calf.

Step 4

Wear the cut soccer socks over the Trusox and pull them up all the way to your knee.

Step 5

Use an athletic tape to tape the joint where the soccer socks overlap with the Trusox on the ankle. Make sure that the tape is the same color as your official soccer socks to avoid getting in trouble with the referee.

Pros

  • Allows you to enjoy the full benefits of the Trusox
  • Conceals the Trusox and saves the player from being fined

Cons

  • The soccer socks cannot be worn alone again

Method 2: Cutting the heel area

If the only area where you are having issues with your soccer socks is the heels, there may be no need to cut off the entire foot of your soccer socks. All you need is to expose as much of the Trusox’s foot area to help correct the problem.

The materials you will need are basically identical to the first method except for the absence of athletic tape. Below are the steps for successfully cutting the heel area of your soccer socks so that you can wear them with Trusox.

Step 1

Wear your soccer socks and pull them all the way up. Raise your foot and mark out the area you need to cut using chalk or a visible marker. This should be from the mid-foot arch to the heels.

Step 2

Pull the socks and cut out the marked area. Make sure your pair of scissors is as sharp as possible to prevent fraying of the socks afterward.

Step 3

Wear your Trusox and pull it up all the way to the mid-calf.

Step 4

Wear the cut soccer socks over the Trusox and pull it up all the way to the knee or wherever you feel comfortable.

Pros

  • Doesn’t require taping which is mostly implicated with fraying
  • The soccer socks can be reused without the Trusox

Con

  • More difficult to cut compared to cutting soccer socks into footless sleeves

Conclusion

Trusox has a lot of benefits but the restriction and rules of soccer are making it more difficult for soccer players to wear these socks. However, using innovative cutting techniques, soccer players have learned how to overcome the limitations and enjoy the full benefit of Trusox.

Interestingly, with the cutting techniques that we highlighted above, you will be able to avoid any regulatory issues with FIFA. Also, it steadies your grip in the soccer boots which allows you to get your mind off the boots and focus on the ball.

While there is yet no sufficient data to determine the efficiency of Trusox and whether it enhances a soccer player’s performance, soccer is as much of a mental game as it is physical. Anything that boosts the confidence of a soccer player is welcomed.
